I’m excited to be linking with Forever in 5th for Show and Tell Tuesday. This past week I have gotten fully back into the swing of school and have some fun things to show and tell!
I started a reading incentive program before Christmas Break, “Reading is Sweet” were students would receive beads for reading and logging their reading. I was excited to be handing out the first ice cream certificates this week to four students who meet their reading goal!!!
I just finished a new product, “Behavior Badges”. I’m excited about giving them to teachers to try them out and get some feedback. There are 12 different behaviors and a place put stickers to reinforce the behavior. These can be used for individual students or the entire class.
My office got a little face lift with new covered cushions and binders for each student in order to store all IEP related information. I also got a new window mirror to hang above the love seat! I love the cozy feeling!
Since I have always been a school psychologist in multiple schools, I never participated in Open House nights. So this year, I was excited to be part of the back to school night at my new school. While being a Special Education Coordinator, you do not get as many parents coming by to visit, I still wanted to be prepared with a little treat!
I was inspired by this post I found on Pinterest and replicated something similar. I just happen to have red and green boxes that I bought years ago for potential Christmas gifts that never got used so I decided to put the cookies in them.
I then attached the poem below to each box full of cookies. I really loved this poem because it emphasizes the importance of educators and parents working together for our children.
The final product turned about pretty nice and hopefully the parents will enjoy the message and the treat!I also found these other great ideas on Pinterest, but did not have time to make them all, but possibly something to try for next year.
In preparation for the new school year, I want to have a fresh and inviting office. I wish I had a picture I could share of the current office, but I don’t…..needless to say it needs some sprucing up. I have a list of projects that I want to get done, but right now, I will just share “part one” of my office makeover. I’m on a budget, so I’m trying to use mostly items I have and then give them a little face lift!
I had an old loveseat that had some pretty ugly fabric on it, so I went to Walmart and bought something fresh that I liked. Instead of sewing the cushion covers, I used a hot glue gun and pins. I just wrapped the cushion like a present. It worked out perfectly and took such little time to complete.
Next, I had a lot of old bulletin boards that I wanted to used. I plan on putting information in the pockets of some of the boards and student artwork or inspirational quotes on the other boards. I got some coordinating fabric and covered each board with the hot glue gun again.
I plan on making this my parent resource board where I will put different articles or sped resources for them. It will fit four different sheets and I can interchange the labels.
I’m hoping to find some little buckets to hang from the hooks on the bottom to fill with pens, pencils, crayons, etc.
What I am the most excited about is this incredible coffee table which was headed to goodwill. Now it will go in front of the loveseat. I wish I could take credit for it, but my dad put in all the labor of sanding, priming, and painting. It turned out fabulous! It has a chalkboard top, so students can write or draw on it. I absolutely love it! I wish I had a before picture, but I just have after pictures.
That’s all the projects for now, but more to come!!
